Building a drivable portfolio
I wanted a portfolio that felt like my games, so the home of this site is a map you can drive: play it here.
Map first, pages too
A portfolio still has to be readable, so every page also exists as plain, prerendered HTML. The map is optional, and each project page has a button that drops you at its town.
What's in the map
- A fixed layout, so buildings never sit on roads and every checkpoint can be reached.
- Click to drive, click behind a stopped truck to reverse, and refuel at gas stations.
- Undead that can't walk through walls. They follow a flow field around obstacles, with a second map-wide field so far-away chasers still find you.
- A celebration every 10 splats, six checkpoints and a speedrun timer, achievements, hidden collectibles, weather, a horn and a procedural radio loop.
- A guestbook on the contact page. Notes show up after I approve them.
Under the hood
It's Three.js built with Vite and served from a Cloudflare Worker, with cookieless analytics. The plain pages score 100 in Lighthouse.
